The Southern Amazon is in a transitional area of biomes with the Pantanal and the Cerrado, so this region has a rich diversity of species. There are numerous mammals to observe, including 9 species of monkeys, otters, giant otters, peccaries, and tapirs, as well as nearly 600 species of birds. These reasons contribute to the formation of an important ecological corridor for the conservation of endangered birds. They are currently considered to be one of the best birdwatching destinations in Brazil and are known as the best region to observe the fauna of the entire Amazon.
